The Opera Pacific Ensemble of Repertory Artists™
(O.P.E.R.A.) was recently created to highlight
emerging Orange County area vocal artists by giving them a range of
performance opportunities. Featuring the finest and most promising
of the area’s young vocalists, the Opera Pacific
Ensemble™ gives them valuable performance
experience, and will also serve to introduce opera to new
audiences, and bring opera to people who are not able to travel to
the Orange County Performing Arts Center to see the fully staged
Opera Pacific productions.
These local artists include talented singing actors who will
entertain and educate the community through programming for young
as well as mature audiences, creating a full-cycle of
intergenerational involvement with classical music and opera. The
goal is to extend Opera Pacific as a community asset creating
greater value to the life of the Orange County community.
For Southern California students, O.P.E.R.A. presents “Fun
With Opera,” an exciting introduction to opera music serving
over 8,000 elementary and middle school students each year. The
program brings these young singers to schools throughout the
Southern California schools systems, including underserved
schoolchildren in the Desert Hot Springs area. As an
introduction to opera, the artists explain the fundamentals of
opera and perform snippets from various operas that illuminate the
points discussed. Curriculum guides that provide relevant
activities are distributed to all participating teachers.
The Opera Pacific Ensemble™ will also present
“Opera in the Raw,” an Opera Pacific program
inaugurated in May 2005, which featured virtuoso performances by
mainstage cast members of La Traviata. Future “Opera
in the Raw” performances will feature major musical sequences
of mainstage productions, in a setting that is up-close and
personal, with spare costumes and sets performed by The Opera
Ensemble™ through Orange County. These
unique performances will give audience members an intimate opera
experience nearly unheard of.
