Placido Domingo

  • Exclusive event for only 200 guests to be held at The St. Regis Monarch Beach Resort in Dana Point, California on October 24, 2003
  • Elegant fundraiser marks Opera Pacific’s influence in the opera world

ORANGE COUNTY, Calif. – Opera Pacific will host an intimate performance, dinner and reception starring world-renowned tenor Placido Domingo on Friday, October 24, 2003 at the St. Regis Monarch Beach Resort in Dana Point, Calif.

“For 200 fortunate people, this evening with Placido Domingo will be an event they’ll never forget. He has experienced one of the most celebrated careers in operatic history.  In addition to singing in all of the major opera houses in the world, Mr. Domingo was the first classical artist to give a solo performance in New York’s Central Park.  Despite poor weather, 400,000 people attended. Opera Pacific’s intimate evening of dinner and song with Mr. Domingo will be unforgettable,” states Martin Hubbard, executive director of Opera Pacific.

Globally recognized as the most significant tenor of our time, Placido Domingo has appeared in more than 100 different roles and has earned 11 Grammy Awards.  His repertoire includes most of the leading men in Italian, German, French and Russian operas.  Maestro Domingo also serves as the general director of both Washington Opera and the Los Angeles Opera. He will also share the stage with renowned mezzo-soprano Milena Kitic who is enjoying a rapid ascent as one of the brightest young stars in the industry. To critical acclaim, she most recently performed the role of Herodias in Opera Pacific’s production of Strauss’ Salome. Opera Pacific’s Artistic Director and Principal Conductor John DeMain, and the Opera Pacific Orchestra will join the singers. An elegant five-course dinner and intimate reception will follow the performance of solo arias and duets.  Individual tickets are priced at $5,000 and seating will be limited to 200 guests.

“From our relatively modest beginning 17 years ago, Opera Pacific has matured into a world-class opera company in terms of repertoire and attendance. Placido’s appearance is an example of our continued growth and maturity,” states John DeMain, artistic director and principal conductor.

Mr. and Mrs. S. Paul Musco of Newport Beach and Mr. and Mrs. Milan Panic of Los Angeles will underwrite the performances for the event.

Tickets are available by contacting Michele Bautista, director of special events for Opera Pacific at 714.830.6323.
