Know before you go − etiquette and information
GO IN STYLE
Most people like to dress up when they go to the opera because it's part of a fun evening. Some patrons dress formal, and some dress casual. While planning your wardrobe, ask yourself what you would wear for a special occasion (like a date), and you'll probably feel most comfortable at the opera. Looking nice also shows consideration for all Opera Pacific guests, adding to the uniqueness of the evening.
BE ON TIME
Performances start promptly. It is important that you arrive in plenty of time to get your tickets and be seated before the opera begins (Thirty minutes before start time is usually sufficient). If you're late, the ushers may let you in after the overture, or you may have to wait until the first intermission − which means you may miss then entire first act!
KEEP IT QUIET
As a courtesy to those on stage and around you, please ensure mobile phones, pagers, and digital watch alarms are switched off (on-call physicians and emergency personnel please switch devices to vibrate mode) before entering the hall, as they spoil the enjoyment of the occasion for other audience members. Also, the sound of whispering, coughing, and rustling paper can also be distracting to others, so please unwrap candies and cough drops before the performance begins.
APPLAUD WHEN APPROPRIATE
The appropriate times to applaud are when the conductor takes the podium at the very beginning of the performance, after the overture, after a big aria, at the end of each act, and when the singers come out to bow.
NO RECORDING
Photography and the use of video and tape recorders are forbidden in all parts of the theatre. This includes cell phone cameras.
CHILDREN
Children are welcome at most Opera Pacific events (see Student Preview in Opera Education); please be aware that they require their own ticket, regardless of age. Keep in mind that silence is a prerequisite for full enjoyment of the opera experience. Babes in arms are not permitted.
NO SMOKING
Smoking is not permitted inside the theatre, including lobbies and restrooms.
PARKING
Parking is available at several parking structures located near the Orange County Performing Arts Center, including the Center Tower Garage on Sunflower Ave. between Avenue of the Arts and Park Center Drive. Many of these structures require a fee. The Center Tower Garage is $8.00.
