The Empress and the Nightingale - Opera Camp
Susan Bingham

August 3rd, 4th - 2002
In English
First Premiered: Sprague Memorial Hall, Yale University, May 14, 1982
"Opera Pacific's professional training and performance camp for young people ages 8-18, culminates in performances of The Empress and the Nightingale at The Irvine Barclay Theatre."

Our acclaimed Opera Camp, the only program of its kind on the West Coast, introduces young people to opera through pieces written specifically for young voices. Students work “elbow to elbow” with industry professionals to mount fully staged professional productions, which are completely cast with children between the ages of 8-17.

“There is no more important outreach than that which touches our children. As a father of a nine-year-old, I hold this initiative very near to my heart.” ~ Maestro John DeMain.

“Magical, innocent, simple, melodious, and utterly charming …” ~ New Haven Register

The Empress and the Nightingale tells the story of the lonely empress whose heart was charmed and spirit rekindled by the magical nightingale. This is an ageless tale of love and forgiveness for young and old alike.
