"The musical themes exquisiely heighten the drama as love turns to tragedy. The brilliance of the piece ensures that it retains its primary place in the heart of audiences around the world." ~ Maestro John DeMain

The timeless beauty of Puccini’s music underscores the tragedy of love betrayed in this immortal classic. Caught in the magical spell of innocent love, our hearts ache for faithful Butterfly, the child bride, rejected and betrayed by her American husband. For him, it was a moment of passion, but for her, a lifetime of love as she chooses to die with honor rather than live with disgrace. Internationally acclaimed Xiu-wei Sun and Metropolitan Opera regular Marie Plette (The Marriage of Figaro 2000) alternate as the abandoned Butterfly in a breathtaking production with sets designed by Michael Yeargan and costumes by Anita Yavich. This Francesca Zambello production is directed by Garnett Bruce.

Conducted by John DeMain.

Directed by Garnett Bruce.
