A bequest is a transfer, by will, of property such as cash, securities (stocks) or tangible property to an individual or a charitable organization.
For many donors, a bequest offers the opportunity to make a more substantial gift than would be possible during the donor's lifetime. Other donors view a bequest as an opportunity to leave a lasting legacy to the opera company.
Because of the tax advantages associated with a bequest to a non-profit institution, assets from the donor's estate that would otherwise go directly to the government in the form of estate taxes can instead be given to Opera Pacific to meet production and educational outreach needs.
Bequests can be stated in the form of specific assets (such as cash, securities, real estate, works of arts, etc.) or as a percentage of the donor's estate.
